Eradication of Hazardous Child Labor

TGE is implementing this project financed by the Ministry of Labor and Employment; Govt. of Bangladesh with a view to withdraw working children from hazardous jobs. Under this project the children receiving non-formal education and skill development training on different trades. Selected parents will be given micro credit to enhance their income generation so that they can abate their dependency on their childrens’ income.

Water and Sanitation

Since its inception TGE has been working on raising awareness on use of safe water and sanitary latrines and hygiene practice promotion with its own resources and donors. TGE has implemented “Flood Emergency Response Project” in three districts in 2005-2006. The project covered installation of temporary latrines, community latrines, holding courtyard meetings and distribution of communication materials for capacity building of the people living in flood prone areas covering 26 Upazilas in the districts of Chandpur, Comilla and Sirajganj.

Inclusion of People with Disabilities into Mainstream Development

An extensive baseline survey was conducted by TGE covering 17 villages of two unions of Kachua in Chandpur district among the disabled people. The study findings of 37000 people revealed an existence of high percentage of disability (3%, 1085 persons) in the area. Initially 222 disabled persons were supported through various programs. These were designed to overcome three elements of disability: treatment, welfare and rehabilitation

Micro Credit Program

Good Earth’s micro-credit program covers two Upazilas of Comilla and Sirajganj districts financed by PKSF and Good Earth’s own resources. The long-term impact of micro-credit and the graduation of micro-credit borrowers to larger scale activities is the focus of Good Earth. Thus, the impact of lowering interest rates and ushering in behavioral changes are key elements in this promotion. In the Good Earth program, one way being promoted is to make beneficiary individuals, families and stakeholders in other Good Earth projects.

Skill Development Training

Good Earth conducted a series of training programs for income or employment generation related activities for local women in agriculture and cottage industries. In the next three years job opportunities for 5000 rural women will be created in agriculture, livestock rearing, and handicrafts and in other related activities. Further support will be provided with micro-finance for production and market access related activities.
Good Earth is also supporting local women for home gardening by providing variety of seeds and appropriate training.

Pre-Primary Schooling

Good Earth has sponsored a number of pre-primary schools in the Upazila of Kachua in the district of Chandpur and Sadar and Kazipur Upazila of Sirajganj district for the children of marginalized and poorest families for preparing them for further education.

 

 

Free Friday Clinic

People of the rural areas in Bangladesh have not enough access to minimum health-care. Good Earth with its small endeavor operates a free Fri day clinic Burgi, in Kachua Upazila under Chandpur district. 

 

 

Disaster Management

TGE launched a project “Local Disaster Risk Reduction Action Plans under Risk Management Framework” under Comprehensive Disaster Management Program (CDMP) in Belkuchi Upazila, Sirajganj.

Objective: To support Disaster Management Committees (DMCs) at the Union level in Belkuchi Upazila to mainstream Local Disaster Risk Reduction Action Plans (LDRRAP) within its core functions in order to significantly reduce the vulnerability of the community from natural hazards

Emergency response for flood 2007: (Relief operation)

A devastating flood occurred here in Sirajgonj district of Bangladesh in July 2007. As a result the vulnerable people of the area like elderly, landless, disabled persons have faced difficulties on shelter, food, clothing and medicine. To reduce the suffering during the flood UNDP and DFID-UK supported essential commodities including rice to 1000 vulnerable families’ through The Good Earth.
